Our Editor's Take

Ronstadt is not a podcast about singer Linda Ronstadt. Instead, the show leads listeners into a bizarre world that may unnerve them. The terrifying and fast-paced horror story is the stuff of nightmares. A great script, voice acting, immersive audio, and sound effects work to make this podcast an entertaining listen. The listener is right in the middle of the action with the protagonist. They may feel like they can see and hear every creature or monster Ronstadt sees and hears. The creative genius of the cast and crew of the show is remarkable. Anyone with an imagination and a great sense of humor may want to give the show a listen. It has drama, terror, suspense, and loads of comedy.

Jonathan Strailey and Brandon Bestenheider created this scripted podcast. Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal are its stars. The duo are known for the YouTube show and podcast Good Mythical Morning. Rhett and Link star in comedic skits, shows, and songs. They also cowrote a book, The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek. Rhett voices the podcast's title character, Ronstadt. Link voices several characters in the podcast, including Kneeslapper.

The early minutes of the podcast create the world around Ronstadt. The writers do a great job of building the intrigue before unleashing the horror. Ronstadt is a snarky hotline rep with spidery senses, and Rhett embodies him to perfection. Ronstadt has to take calls no one else wants at a 911 call center. Soon, his self-coined craydar" starts to go off on the job. Over nine episodes, the story unfolds into an irresistible tale.

Rhett's voice acting on the podcast is commendable. He brings Ronstadt to life with the right tone and well delivered lines. Ronstadt separates itself from the pack of audio dramas in podcasting. All episodes are available to stream.
